Silvia Sciorilli Borrelli is the City of London reporter for POLITICO Europe. A U.S. raised Roman, Silvia began her career as a full-time journalist four years ago after working as a banking and finance lawyer in New York and Milan. After a freelance stint at Italy’s main business newspaper, Il Sole24Ore, Silvia earned a master’s degree in journalism at Milan University and went on to work for CNBC Italy as a reporter and anchor. From there she moved to CNBC’s European headquarters in London where she worked on the news desk, mainly focusing on the production of the network’s daily flagship show Squawk Box. At the end of 2014, Silvia joined U.K. trade publication Citywire to report on European investment funds and asset management news while also working on the launch of the group’s new English-language monthly magazine for the Swiss investment industry. Silvia has also reported on the rise of Islamic extremism in Britain and issues such as immigration, integration and labor in Europe for Italian media. In 2013 Silvia won the under-33 Ilaria Alpi Award for investigative journalism for a documentary on toxic waste trafficking in the Mediterranean during the 1990s.
