Visiting Professor; former Director of GCHQ

Sir David Omand GCB is a Visiting Professor in the Department of War Studies, King’s College London and at Sciences-Po in Paris.  He was appointed in 2002 the first UK Security and Intelligence Coordinator, responsible to the Prime Minister for the professional health of the intelligence community, national counter-terrorism strategy and homeland security.  He was Permanent Secretary of the UK Home Office from 1997 to 2000, and before that Director of GCHQ, the UK’s signals intelligence and cybersecurity organisation. Previously, in the Ministry of Defence he served as Deputy Under Secretary of State for Policy. He is the Senior Independent Director of Babcock International Group plc and on the senior Advisory Board of Paladin Capital investing in cyber security startups. He was a member of the Bildt Global Commission on Internet Governance. His book Securing the State (2010 Hurst Publishing) is now available in a Kindle edition.
